LOS ANGELES COUNTY HOUSING COMMISSION
OVERVIEW

Housing Commissioners
Annual Meeting Schedule
Monthly Meeting Agendas

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors serves as the Board of Commissioners for the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (Housing Authority).  The Board sets policy for the Housing Authority.

The Board has also appointed a twelve-member Housing Commission which meets monthly.  It is the Housing Commission’s responsibility to review and make recommendations on Housing Authority matters that will be presented to the Board of Commissioners for approval.

Each of the five Commissioners selects an individual who is not a tenant, but has a background in housing, finance, construction, or community involvement to serve on the Housing Commission.  These representatives serve four-year terms.

Six of the members are “tenant” commissioners who serve two-year terms; one of the six must be at least 62 years of age.  They represent residents of properties owned or managed by the Housing Authority and participants in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program.  Tenant commissioners are chosen after successfully completing an application and participating in an interview process.

As a grantee of the Shelter + Care Program, the Housing Authority must obtain input from a person who is currently or formerly homeless.  To satisfy this requirement, one additional member seat was added to the Housing Commission.  This Commissioner is selected from a pool of candidates recommended by homeless service providers.

All Housing Commissioners are appointed by the Board of Commissioners.
