HOUSING CATEGORIES AND DEFINITIONS
The Housing Development Unit administers loan programs that provide financing and technical assistance for the development of several types of affordable and special needs housing.
NON-SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSING
This category includes apartment buildings, apartment complexes that have have some rent restrictions and affordability requirements for a minimum of 30 years.
SENIOR HOUSING
Most affordable senior housing projects are funded in a similar manner to multifamily housing. The typical senior housing projects contain at least thirty one-bedroom units and are marketed as affordable independent living communities. Assisted Living, Continuum of Care or Frail Elderly projects may also be considered. The CDC is also supporting the Assisted Living Waiver Pilot Project.
SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSING
The CDC supports the development of specialized housing units for persons with disabilities, emancipated foster youth, people living with HIV/AIDs, the frail elderly, and victims of domestic violence.
SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSING
The HOME and Industry Fund Program may be used to fund the construction or renovation of single-family houses that are sold to first-time homebuyers earning less than 80% of the median income. Funded projects are generally new-construction projects containing at least ten detached houses, although other forms of homeownership development may be considered.
